Dorset National Landscape; the organisation behind the Dorset Fingerpost Project.
As we know fingerposts are a common feature of the Dorset countryside and with their unique design it is important that we do not lose these icons along with other roadside features like traditional phone boxes and bridge plates. This is why the Dorset National Landscape Partnership set up this project over 13 years ago. The project was set up back in 2010 with the mission to restore as many of the Dorset fingerposts as possible using the correct materials keeping the local distinctiveness alive! To date with the help of the Dorset Fingerposts Restorers (aka Roger) and many local heroes over 400 of the approximately 800 fingerposts currently in place have been restored back to their former glory. However, in the 1950s there was in the region of 1500, some of which have recently been reinstated, following the wishes of the local Parish Council. DNL are the overarching body that keeps this project alive, but we could not do it without our champions - YOU!
